Norwalk, CT – August 29, 2013 – The SDN Precon kicked off ITEXPO this week in Las Vegas, featuring a robust educational program that focused on defining software-defined networking (SDN) and its role in the industry, how it’s being implemented and who’s seeing success in moving it forward, and what this all means for networking as we know it.
“SDN is emerging as one of the most disruptive advances that networks have seen in the past decade,” said Paula Bernier, executive editor of INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine and chair of SDN Precon. “SDN Precon really dug deep in defining the current state of SDNs and gave attendees an in-depth look at what’s coming next, both in terms of technology and use cases. Everyone left the conference with a better understanding of how SDN will help them achieve more efficient, cost-effective networks.”
Bernier and Ovum’s Mike Sapien each spoke about how the key concepts engendered in SDN are somewhat similar to the goal of SS7 and intelligent networking so many years ago – to make the network and service providers more agile so they can offer services more quickly.
Highlights of the event included the latest SDN research, deployment strategies, and next-gen technologies, including:
- A look at the impact SDN is having on enterprise services now and in the future, featuring Ovum’s Sapien.
- An overview of the OpenDaylight project from Frost & Sullivan’s Ron Gruia.
- An in-depth explanation of the difference between NFV (network function virtualization) and SDN, and who’s doing what with each now.
- A review of Network Visualization as one of the key applications for SDN.
The next SDN Precon will be held at ITEXPO Miami January 28-31, 2014. Companies interested in exhibiting, sponsorship or advertising packages for SDN Precon should contact TMC's Joe Fabiano, 203-852-6800 x132. For media registration, contact Ashley Baster.
