New technologies like mobile devices and the cloud have given businesses the ability to rapidly adopt new business models. With rapid changes in business come rapid changes in the roles of people and technologies. A user’s identity, role and their workplace (location/device) will define their workspace that can consist of both traditional apps or new emerging cloud or mobile apps. Offering multiple services to meet the needs of unique users is a good thing, but delivering different experiences across those services is no longer acceptable. The experience needs to be seamless across scenarios, user groups and devices. This session will discuss the mindset shift that leaders must make in order to thrive within this digital disruption and share best practices that they can implement to ensure a seamless experience within their own businesses.

All About the API
Panel: Common Mistakes to Avoid when Building your API
API-09
The first obstacle in successfully building out an API ecosystem or program – well before getting it out to developers and customers – is making sure you have a quality product to take to market. The fact is, it’s not as easy as simply deciding you’re going to design and build an API. If it were, everyone would have a good one. But, there are far too many examples of unsuccessful API launches, which this session is designed to help you avoid. We’ll discuss some examples of failed APIs, why they didn’t work, and what could have been done differently. This session is your guide to successful API development.

The emergence of social media over the past decade has revolutionized the way businesses communicate with their customers. Nearly 50 percent of Millennials say they count on social media when shopping online (and we all know how popular online shopping has become). Half of American shoppers say Facebook is the top purchase influencer for them. And, more than 8 out of 10 customers indicate they like, or even love, when a company responds to them via social channels. So, as the Millennial generation becomes an increasingly influential part of the workforce and, therefore, your customer base, your customer engagement and acquisition strategy has to evolve to become Millennial-friendly. This session will explore the role social media, mobility, and other technologies are and should be playing in your customer-facing strategy, from technology to process, to ensure you’re able to handle this new era of customer engagement.

Panel: How Network Function Virtualization (NFV) is Reshaping Managed Services in the 21st Century
MSP-08
Raven Guru Marketing
Oracle
Versa Networks
mTusker
Due to competition and commoditization, managed service providers have essentially become VARs, reselling hardware and offering proprietary routers and servers to their subscribers. This business model offers very low profit margins. Compounding this challenge is both fierce competition from adjacent sectors including OTT and broadband providers, as well as increasingly DevOps-focused customers forcing service providers to develop and provision managed services more rapidly. At the same time, business goals require regular increases in top-line service revenue through more robust service offerings and improve service profitability. The good news is that NFV technology can help restore a service provider’s service profitability by making it easier to design and roll out new services while ditching complex and expensive proprietary hardware. Service providers won’t just see new revenue, but will watch their CapEx and OpEX drop by up to 80 percent! This panel will discuss how virtualized network functions (VNFs) can augment an MSP’s offerings, increase margins, agility and total addressable market.

From Day 1, Microsoft has seen widespread adoption of its UC-focused solutions – OCS, Lync, Skype for Business – but too many businesses have failed to live up to expectations. Often, that can be a result of not have a well-planned implementation strategy in place. In order to maximize benefits and ROI, business leaders must consider variables such as, current environment and infrastructure, goals and future objectives, users’ needs, migration plan, and of course, an education agenda. Not only will consideration of the factors help you make an informed decision, it will ensure you have a well-designed plan for implementation that will guide you to success, rather than leaving you wishing you had your old system back. Panelists will discuss the challenges of Skype for Businesses and steps businesses can take to alleviate them, based on real-world experience.

From Monolithic to Microservices: Scaling Technology and Process for a Digital World
API-11
We all know designing large applications as a series of modular components all communicating with each other over APIs can have numerous advantages. When moving from monolithic design to microservices, you are increasing the number of moving parts that all must work together to deliver the same amount of functionality. This increases both the overhead and complexity of both your internal processes and procedures to manage these components, as well as the technology needed to continuously test and monitor them. This presentation we will outline the common mistakes people make when adopting more API-driven applications; discuss adjustments you can make to your workflow and technology, such as integrating performance testing into build and deployment systems, and triaging performance issues as if they were functional bugs; and, finally, attendees will receive guidance on ways to execute these practices at scale.

WiFi is no longer a nice-to-have; rather, it's a requirement for operating a successful business. But, much like any other IT operation, WiFi can be a resource drain, which is why we're seeing WiFi services domain with several providers having already launched WiFi as a Service offerings. The concept of Network as a Service relieves IT teams of the burden of managing WiFi networks, while giving MSPs an additional recurring revenue stream into which they can tap. In fact, recent research suggests 64 percent of SMBs are interested in WiFi as a Service. This session will discuss the growth of WiFi as a Service, the addressable market, as well as the latest generation of services, including artificial intelligence-driven Smart WiFi as a Service.

Intellicom Analytics Research: UC - A Vendor Landscape in Flux
E-03
IntelliCom Analytics
You’ve read the news – more and more established business communication providers are undergoing restructuring of some kind or hiring outside consultants to “assess strategic alternatives.” At the same time, evolving collaboration technology is disrupting the landscape, providing new capabilities but also requiring heavy investment and significant business model changes from providers. Not everyone is going to make the cut. How concerned should businesses be about the impact of looming industry consolidation? Who might step in to fill the gap if your current primary provider falters? And how important will emerging capabilities like IoT integration be in differentiating providers and determining the potential winners and losers from all this change? Based on the most recent research from IntelliCom Analytics, this session will unveil brand new findings from a joint TMC and IntelliCom business survey that will shine a light on how other business customers view these issues and plan to respond to the evolving competitive landscape.

Panel: Rerouting the Customer Journey through Embeddable Applications
API-12
In today’s customer obsessed world, the contact center plays a more critical role in the maintenance and growth of an organization’s customer base than ever before. A customer’s experience with the contact center begins with initial contact, whether that be a phone call, email, chat or social media message, but that doesn’t mean that is where the customer’s journey began. From there, agents have the difficult task of navigating through the customer’s history, as well as a series of current problems and questions, all while maintaining professionalism. Not only is this process archaic in nature, it’s also stressful for both parties. In order to enhance the effectiveness for both the organization and the customer, a fresh take and re-evaluation of the customer journey from start to finish is necessary. The future of the contact center hinges on the ability to embed applications directly into a single platform. Embeddable applications have the potential to transform the contact center into a multifunctional communication hub that can be integrated into customer workflows, websites and other applications. This session will discuss how embedded applications are changing the overall customer journey to create a more positive experience.

The cloud delivery of communications and collaboration services is well underway. While the values for end user organizations is fairly well understood, the impacts and challenges for traditional telecom CARs is still being resolved. The cloud business model rewards scale in efficiency and cost, often making it hard to develop for smaller channels. Some estimates have placed the minimum number of subscribers required for an effective cloud business at over 500,000, creating a challenge for some providers. The business models for channel partners for cloud vendors is equally murky, with some offers seeming to be structured to the VAR and some to the agent model. Managing this business transition is the next challenge for channel still coping with VoIP and price erosion. This session will feature analysis of the market and a panel of leading cloud providers and VARs discussing (and re-defining, if necessary) this perceived threshold for success, how the success can be achieved and how it's defined, and how the market is reacting to the transition to a cloud model and how to model can be adapted to accommodate different channel partners.
