All About the API
Panel: Raising The Bar for SMS - How Cloud Communications APIs are Driving Innovation in Legacy Telco Services
API-08
The fragmented mobile carrier ecosystem has created wide-ranging challenges for communications, particularly in messaging. The SMS channel boasts the broadest reach, highest read rate, fastest channel for customer interactions. Some of the most successful companies in nearly all industries have harnessed global messaging to create competitive advantages (Uber in transport, Airbnb in travel, Barclays in alerts, etc.). However, the complex carrier infrastructure was not built to support business critical communications. In this session, learn how API-based cloud communications solutions are helping solve the challenges in SMS, including deliverability, real-time analytics, and routing.

CoSMo Software, LLC
The emerging Real Time Web is a transformation in how communications is delivered. By moving communications and collaboration directly into applications on the web and mobile devices, a new and powerful transformation is being enabled. However, as we all know, the Web can be challenging and even dangerous. This session will focus on the security and identity challenges in the Real-time Web and how the technologist and the standards community are addressing those same challenges.

Panel: What MSPs Need to Know About APIs
MSP-13
The growing API Economy is driving an Anything as a Service environment, which means that businesses are no longer bound to local IT and communications vendors. Rather, they can now seek out MSPs that are able to deliver some or all of the services businesses by writing apps to leverage available APIs. The nature of MSPs – building their businesses on the ability to together multiple services into cohesive packages – makes them a natural fit for the API marketplace. As they continue to evolve offers and integrate new services using APIs, there will be hurdles to overcome, and best practices for doing so. This panel will discuss those issues, including the types of APIs available and from whom, how to ensure different APIs work well together, which APIs are most useful for their objectives, and more.

CSPs are facing rapid disruption with significant revenue and margin pressures. Among the challenges is increased competition, not from their own legacy community, but from digital service providers like Netflix, Google, and Amazon. As a result, CSPs are changing their business models so they look more like these DSPs, focusing on services first and connections second. In order to seize new opportunities in digital services, a move to the cloud, and to more agile billing systems, is essential. This session considers how traditional CSPs can adapt their models to compete in today’s OTT world without compromising scalability, performance, or security.

E-05

IntelliCom Analytics
Alcatel Lucent Enterprise
The business workspace has evolved significantly over the past decade, it hardly resembles its predecessors. Technology has become pervasive and governs everything we do, with the goal being to be as productive as possible, following the mantra, “Work smarter, not harder.” In order to do that, businesses must have the foresight to invest in the most appropriate technologies that will allow them to collaborate with anyone, potentially including colleagues, partners, and customers as needed. While the right tools allow users to accomplish tasks and achieve goals more efficiently, not having them typically results in a reduction in efficiency due to redundant and unnecessary tasks – business decelerators. Join this panel to collaboratively discuss how the digital workplace has evolved, the tools that are available that drive collaboration, what factors should guide your decisions, and how to properly deploy and implement your choice of collaboration technologies.

Turbocharge your API Strategy with SDK
API-14
With the incredible growth of connected services, APIS ARE not just here to stay but, are already transforming businesses. Gone are the days of browser- or mobile-first strategies for building technology infrastructure. “API-first’ has become the new imperative to survive and thrive in this fast moving marketplace. The primary consumers of any API is a developer, and a well-documented and simple interface API is a must have, but it’s not everything. A key secret ingredient is the SDK, which will not only help your customers consume APIs faster and more cost effectively, but make them stickier, thereby helping clients become your best promoters. While fundamentally dissimilar to APIs, SDKs provide a platform that helps reduce the effort involved in developing and deploying integrations. They are not without their side effects, as they can be hard to maintain and prone to getting out of date and perform inefficiently, which is why some believe them to be unnecessary. This session will explain why they are, in fact, important to a successful API program, and will present a rigorous approach to building and launching a successful an SDK strategy and what it takes to create a proper architecture and pair APIs with SDKs the right way.

Threat Actors Explored: Grandmothers, Gangsters, Guerrillas and Governments
HT-14
Securonix
The world has changed and what kept us secure thus far has stopped working. Virtually everything is or will soon be connected. Translation: everything is or will soon be “hackable.” Attack surfaces are massive and continue to grow with the expansion of mobility, healthcare devices, critical infrastructure systems, the consumerization of IT, home automation, in-vehicle infotainment, and more. This has created a perfect storm for threat actors, who have now had decades to mature, specialize and build trust groups where they share techniques, technology and talent – regardless of their motivation (financial, political, personal). This session will explore various threat actors including insiders, cybercriminals, hacktivists and nation-states. Historical juxtaposition, use cases and personal stories across two decades, 50 countries and six continents will help the audience better understand some motivations and methods behind these threat actors. By better understanding our enemies, we can create a superior security posture and protect our organizations.

Shared Responsibility: A Key To Effective Cloud Security
SP-14
RingCentral
Cloud security is a shared responsibility model. It's simply not possible to outsource every security measure to your cloud provider. This session will educate attendees about security best practices and how to engage with their cloud vendors as partners in maximizing protections and avoid a fear-based approach when talking security with cloud vendors. The good news is that there are a few key steps companies using cloud-based services, and the vendors who provide them, can take together to prevent and detect threats from compromised credentials. This session will present the four most important ones to take.

Mobile-first Communications APIs and The Mobile Last Mile
API-04
Today’s availability of cloud communications platforms and open communications technologies including WebRTC, is making it much easier for developers of applications of all kinds to quickly embed real-time voice and video communications for their users. The rapid inclusion of these capabilities into general-purpose mobile messaging platforms, such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat and even within core mobile platforms such Apple’s iOS and Xiaomi’s version of the Android OS, is creating an expectation within consumer and business users that voice and video should always “just be there”. What does this mean for all other application developers? This session answers that, and many others that follow. Can developers simply rely on these general purpose platforms or will they lose application stickiness, user context, key analytics data and ultimately revenue by giving away this functionality to other platforms? How easy is it to embed communications? What needs to be provided behind a mobile communications API to truly support developers’ needs for easy, high-quality experiences for their users. What constraints does RTC add to more standard APIs? Where are the boundaries between what’s included within mobile SDKs versus what’s provided by the cloud in order for developers to deliver quality communications without having to worry about the details.

HT-15
Securonix
The past few years have led to a pattern of anti-privacy legislation and “suggestions” on how the federal government would like to deal with information. This includes encryption, sharing of breach data, threat intelligence sharing and a removal of privacy for every individual. A significant amount of this has fallen under the guise of “safety” and “anti-terrorism.” These forms of fear mongering can lead to wide open access points for the nefarious access to large amounts of data and a lot of these regulations, legislative efforts and “suggestions” are one way. This can lead to a powerful argument that not only the bad actors are bad, but those organizations that have been built to protect the American citizen are just as nefarious. This session will look at current and proposed legislature and “best practices” as offered through Executive Action and committee and make suggestions to the value of these potential implementations. The discussion will include a look at the lack of knowledge of privacy, security and encryption at the legislative level and ask thought provoking questions as to why our representatives, who don’t understand the basics of information security, are enacting and proposing far reaching proposed legislation.
