Uptime is Critical for Brand Reputation
SP-02
Regional VP, Operations
vXchnge
Human error is the leading factor in data center downtime. As evidenced by British Air’s recent data center outage, brand reputation is easily – and often irrevocably – damaged by even short amounts of downtime. Since secure and reliable IT performance is critical to brand reputation and management, it’s essential for businesses to engage a data center partner that guarantees above-average uptime rates. Implementing best practices and disciplines can reduce the potential for human errors that directly impact reputation management, TCO, giving customers higher uptime and reliability. This session will discuss leading indicators that every company should consider when choosing a data center, including compliance and security protocols, support and maintenance, continuity planning, reliability, monitoring and reporting transparency.

What Every Service Provider Should Know About the API Economy
SP-03
President & Founder

UC
VP, Enhanced Application Development
Voyant
As the cloud becomes an indispensible resource for service providers seeking new revenue models on which to build their businesses, APIs represent a massive opportunity for them to build an extensive developer and app ecosystem around their service delivery capabilities. Providers understand their customer bases, making it easier for them to integrate the right API-driven services and applications. It’s a twist on the old build vs. buy dilemma. Building an API-based application ecosystem on top of existing networks and services is an efficient path to greater customer satisfaction and revenue. This session will cover what service providers need to know in order to build their own API ecosystems and start enjoying returns quickly.

Digital Transformation + Lean IT: How the European Power Grid got an Efficiency Boost
SP-04
CEO
Bonitasoft
Through continued modernization, digital transformation platforms are going beyond traditional process automation and optimization to help realize Lean IT advantages in organizations of all sizes. This case will show how an interactive, low-code digital transformation approach is being used to completely revise operational processes for coordination of services for the secure operations of the high-voltage electricity system for over 40 percent of the population of the European Union. The digital transformation project was launched with a cross-functional IT team with the goal of creating an application that would eliminate the operational waste and knowledge loss due to manual execution, non-standardized processes, and operations engineer turnover. Now in production for 6 months, the organization has automated complex data collection and a formalized decision process for two processes that manage the consolidation of several hundreds of different data about the European Grid. Learn what they did, how they did it, the tools they used, and the lessons learned by the IT team as they continue to transform this organization’s complex manual data collection, analysis, and report generation processes with lean, efficient applications that provide high added value to their ultimate customers.

Delivering Telco-grade Services from an IT-grade Cloud
SP-07
Network operators hold themselves to very high standards for the availability of the services they deliver. The industry often refers to “five nines” or 99.999% availability as the standard to which telco-grade services should be held. That’s equivalent to about 6 minutes of down time per year. The best industry-standard high volume servers are actually getting quite close to this standard, although no better than 99.995% availability should be expected from such machines. But, the other key technology foundation of NFV, cloud computing, falls far short of telco-grade requirements. The best analyses we have seen suggests that an individual cloud computing environment can today achieve no better than around 99.95% availability. This session will explore the interrelationships and dependencies between current telco and cloud technologies, standards and failover methodologies, and how they can be combined to best effect to support VoLTE and other next-gen services.

Should my Interconnected VoIP Company Become a Private Telecommunications Carrier
SP-11
Managing Partner
Marashlian & Donahue, PLLC, The CommLaw Group
Whether knowingly or not, the vast majority of UCaaS/Cloud Communications companies operate as “Interconnected VoIP” service providers (I-VoIP), per the regulatory definition established by the FCC circa 2005, in its Vonage Order. The FCC regulates I-VoIP differently than traditional telecoms. For the most part, the differences have favored I-VoIP companies, helping them to compete with incumbent carriers. Nevertheless, a significant legal classification available to traditional telecommunications competitors remains out of reach for the I-VoIP industry. That’s because a carrier whose service offering meets the definition of “Interconnected VoIP” cannot offer their services on a private carriage basis, or take advantage of certain de-regulatory benefits associated with private carriage. I-VoIP providers are also subject to more regulatory burdens and compliance fees at the State Utility Commission level than private carriers/private service providers, which largely go unregulated in the vast majority of the states. This session will highlight the issues, opportunities and benefits, as well as the risks associated with transforming your I-VoIP company into a Private Telecommunications Carrier, in whole or in part.

SP-14
Executive Editor
TMC
CEO & CTO
Massive Networks
The communications industry has been talking about SDN, NFV, Cloud, Virtualization – collectively, the software telco – for some time. With a few exceptions, most operators seem to be struggling to achieve expected results. There are many reasons, both technical and non-technical. This panel will discuss how to put virtualization, automation and DevOps in place and use the tools like SDN, NFV, and cloud to achieve Digital Transformation. What are the roadblocks? To what extend have they been overcome? What other requirements must be addressed to shorten the transformation timeframe for providers so they may enjoy the benefits of digitalization and software-centricity?

Consumption Economy vs. Subscription Economy: Which Model will Win?
SP-17
Evangelist
Recurly
Today’s service provider marketplace is complex, growing more convoluted every day. While the subscription model is still alive and well, with many providers finding great success offering subscription-based services. It’s iTunes vs. Spotify. And, the massive number of new services being introduced is making a consumption model revival very viable. This isn’t the old pay for what you use, but comes with a new structure, new provisioning and billing complexities, and unprecedented pressure on service delivery. Which model will win? That’s unclear. Which model makes more sense for you? That’s what this session will help you understand.
